Be an informed puppy buyer! Some great information about acquiring a puppy can be found at the Golden Retriever Club of America website: Acquiring a Golden Retriever. Know what to ask when looking for a puppy. Being informed will help ensure that you have a healthy golden that will be with you for many wonderful years.
Consider adopting a rescue golden. Not all households can handle raising a puppy (it can be a LOT of work!!), but perhaps an older puppy or dog would be more appropriate. Please visit Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue or NORCAL Golden Retriever Rescue.
As part of NORCAL Golden Retriever Club’s mission, education of new puppy owners and prospective puppy buyers is a top priority. A puppy is like part of a family. Dog fancy breeders have maintained the tradition of not making the breeding of dogs a business, but rather a hobby and rarely have more than two litters a year. When looking for a responsible breeder, go through the following checklist:
1. Member of local or national breed club or AKC All Breed club
2. One or both parents available to see and referrals from other puppy buyers
3. Health clearances for the parents of the litter
4. Pedigrees of parents
5. Contract clearly stating rights and responsibilities of both parties
Hobbyist breeders often interview prospective families, have applications to fill out, and may even ask for veterinary referrals. There is a life long commitment to every puppy. New puppy families say that it is a process quite like adopting a child
Be careful, especially in the San Francisco Bay Area, about puppy sellers who are actually puppy brokers. These are individuals who rarely own either of the parents and usually sell through the newspaper classifieds or Craigslist. Puppy brokers usually get their puppies from commercial breeders (often outside of the State of California), have large quantities of puppies on site, and can offer none of the items in the above checklist. Some notorious puppy brokers in the East Bay offer training and vaccinations for the puppies they sell as a means of restricting contact of the puppy to responsible trainers and veterinarians. If it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t!
If you are interested in getting a puppy from us, please feel free to contact us about future litters we may have. All of our dogs have their health clearances and are not bred until they are at least two years of age. The cost of a puppy is based upon our expenses.

We wish we had a litter of puppies to offer but at this time we are simply taking inquiries. We do not place puppies on a "first come, first served" basis. We evaluate each potential family and try to make the best matches. Understand that it may be anywhere from 6 months to a year before we have an available litter.
What's our process?
1) We accept inquiries all year long.
2) Once we know we have an available litter, we reach out to everyone who is on our inquiry list.
3) Those who are still interested in a puppy are asked to fill out a questionnaire.
4) We paper screen using the questionnaire and then invite potential families to come meet the puppies (and us).
5) Once we decide on what could be possible matches, we provide that information to the families paired to a puppy.
IF you are interested in getting on our inquiry list, please fill out the form below. Once we know we have a litter we will contact those on the list and send out an application to anyone who is still interested. We match puppies to families so we do not take deposits or reservations.
