AKC Champion Shalimar's Top of the Mark, CD, SDHF aka Arsey was the first show Golden Retriever at Argus Golden Retrievers. Long known for training guide dog puppies, Argus Golden Retrievers has a tradition of solid working dogs and loyal companions. Laura Finco, founder of Argus Golden Retrievers, began training dogs when she was only ten years old. Her interests expanded past training dogs and worked their way into a career working with exotic animals at Marine World/Africa USA. After "retiring" from Marine World, Laura went onto work with other "wild and exotic animals"--she is a full time middle school science teacher!
Laura Finco is the past President of NORCAL Golden Retriever Club and current president of the Professional Ring Stewards Association. She has been a State Delegate for the California Teachers Association, has been elected to serve on the CTA Association for Better Citizenship, serves as president of the San Ramon Valley Education Association and is an alternate director for California on the NEA Board of Directors. Laura's passion for advocacy ensures that all puppies are placed in excellent new homes.
Laura is an AKC Agility Judge, competes in agility, obedience, and shows her dogs in conformation. She is also a volunteer 4-H leader and advocate for responsible dog ownership, working as a legislative liaison with the American Kennel Club
April Ronca Finco married into Argus Golden Retrievers, bringing with her two lab mixes, Lucky (19) and Amelia (15). Lucky took his responsibilities as "uncle" very seriously. He helped raise every litter of puppies we had until his passing. In addition to learning free style obedience and regular obedience, April has taken on learning how to show groom Golden Retrievers. When not working with the dogs, April teaches Jazzercise. Both Laura and April are certified scuba divers, SUP enthusiasts, and enjoy the theater.
